Purpose in the Mundane

Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.

Colossians 3:1

Thoughts

In Colossians 3:1, we find a profound reminder and encouragement:

“Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.”

This scripture can be a lifeline for a weary mom feeling overwhelmed or struggling with finding purpose – when she is drowning in the seemingly mundane tasks of raising her children, uplifting her household, and just straight up being the backbone of the family.

This verse reminds me of our unique identity and position.

As a mom, it’s easy to be consumed by the daily grind, the never-ending chores, the constant demands, and the feeling of being stretched thin.

But Colossians 3:1 tells us that we are “raised with Christ.” This speaks to our spiritual rebirth and the dignity we possess as children of God. Your worth and purpose extend far beyond the roles you play in your family or society; they are anchored in Christ, in your divine kinship with Him. Mama, you are a daughter of the King! Not JUST a mom by any means.

Secondly, the verse invites us to “set our hearts on things above.” Amid the chaos and exhaustion, it’s easy to lose sight of the bigger picture. But here’s an invitation to shift our perspective, to look beyond the immediate and see the eternal.

As a mom, your role is significant in shaping another human being, in nurturing a soul.

It points to Christ who is “seated at the right hand of God.” The image signifies authority, power, and intercession. As you strive and struggle, remember you are not alone.

Christ is in the position of power, advocating for you, interceding for you.

Your daily grind is part of a bigger, beautiful tapestry that God is weaving. When you feel your purpose blurring, look to Christ, cling to Him, draw strength from Him, and find your purpose in Him.

To quote Tara Leigh Cobble (because I’ve been deep in her Bible Recap so it’s fresh on my mind), He is where the joy is. So set your heart on Him.
