Sample Texas Withdrawal Letter

Withdrawing your child from their school is simple in Texas. Use this template as a starting point and fill in the appropriate fields with your information. I recommend sending via snail mail and Certified – Return Receipt Requested so that there is no question whether or not your child’s school has received your notice. But that is not 100% necessary.

If your child has never attended a public/private school before, disregard this process and just begin home educating.

If they are set to start in the fall, send this letter before school starts to avoid any truancy claims for the upcoming school year.

June 25, 2023

Dear Mr. Minor,

I am writing to formally inform you that as of June 30, 2023, my child, Michael Scott Jr., currently enrolled in fifth grade, will be withdrawing from Saticoy Middle School to begin homeschooling.

Under Texas state law, our home school will be considered a private school. We will be covering a curriculum that includes reading, spelling, grammar, mathematics, and good citizenship, fulfilling the requirements of a bona fide education in accordance with the Texas Education Code Annotated section 25.086(a)(1). Our school meets the standards established by the Texas Supreme Court in Texas Educational Agency v. Leeper, 893 S.W.2d 432 (1994).

Please consider this letter as our intent to homeschool, and remove Michael Scott Jr. from your enrollment roster to ensure that he/she will not be marked as truant. We request that you kindly process this withdrawal at the earliest convenience.

If you have further questions, please submit them to me in writing at the above address.

Thank you for your understanding and support in this matter.

Sincerely,
